In light of the paradox arising from the undeniable fact that our nascent society of knowledge is turning out to be primarily visual, this book proposes an idea of the complex image that is not merely a new type of image but rather a fundamentally new way of thinking about images. Beyond the ancient disputes between visual culture and textual culture, new complexities regarding image are giving rise to hybrid situations through which the two forms of knowledge management ally themselves in favor of understanding a reality that is both complex and, therefore, does not admit the vicissitudes of old paradigms that, like the mimetic image, have governed our understanding of all things visual up to now.
