Gaudí executed most of his works in Barcelona and his buildings had a decisive influence on the city s urban landscape. On the other hand, the city marked his oeuvre, for it must be remembered that architecture has invariably exerted an enormous specific weight in the urban and social history of the Catalan capital. Furthermore, circumstances would have it that Gaudí s life unfolded simultaneously with the evolution of the complex social and cultural phenomenon of Modernisme.
