Bajo el apelativo de Lingüística suelen englobarse disciplinas que hoy día se han“independizado”en su objeto de estudio específico, pero que son interdependientes con respecto a la primera. Este es el caso de la Semántica, con apenas un siglo de existencia como rama autónoma de la Lingüística, y que en la presente obra manifiesta un sistema de análisis poco conocido y denominado de ordinario Sprachinhaltsforschung, que comprende cuatro fases de investigación referidas a la forma, al contenido, a la producción-rendimiento y a la función-efecto. Los provechosos frutos que esta vía de análisis procura se dan cita en este libro referido al griego antiguo, aunque cualquier lengua moderna puede aprovecharse de este acercamiento metodológico que tiene como eje central el significado.
