En 1978 el editor inglés lan Alian publicó el libro escrito por Michael J. Fox Last Steam Locomotives of Spain and Portugal, que rememora los últimos años de la tracción vapor en estos dos países. Las fotografías procedían de muchos autores. El libro fue muy bien recibido y se agotó rápidamente. Muchas de aquellas imágenes originales llegaron a los archivos fotográficos de Brian Stephenson, uno de los coautores de este libro, tras la prematura muerte de Michael Fox en diciembre de 1997. Esas fotografías se reproducen ahora con una excelente calidad, los pies de foto las realzan y además se han añadido bastantes fotografías nuevas. Están representados RENFE, los ferrocarriles portugueses y los ferrocarriles de vía estrecha e industriales en este trabajo de muchos y renombrados fotógrafos del ferrocarril; desgraciadamente, un gran número de ellos ya ha desaparecido. Estas imágenes son un testigo singular de una era que ya es tan sólo un recuerdo. In 1978 the English publisher lan Allan produced the book Last Steam Locomotives of Spain and Portugal by Michael J. Fox, recording the last years of steam traction in those two countries. The photographs came from many photographers, the book was well received and sold out very quickly. Many of the original illustrations came into the photographic archives of Brian Stephenson, co-author of this book, following the untimely death of Michael Fox in December 1997. These have been reproduced on much improved art paper with enhanced captions plus a substantial number of new pictures. RENFE, Portuguese State Railways, minor railways and industrial railways are all featured: the work of many renowned railway photographers; sadly a large number of whom have now passed away. The pictures form a unique record of an era which is now only a memory.
